UMPIRING
Umpiring Indoor Netball is a special challenge as you are on the court with the players. The skill for the umpire is to be able to move into a position to see the play without interfering with player movement. For an experienced Outdoor umpire the transition to Indoor umpiring can be challenging. Once mastered, Indoor umpiring can be very rewarding with opportunities to umpire at the highest level available to all those willing to commit.
TESTING
To become a qualified Indoor Netball umpire you will be required to sit a written Theory ‘A' paper with a pass mark of 70% for In-House umpires and 90% for Superleague umpires. Once you have passed the written paper you will also be assessed by the Arena Umpire Co-ordinator for In-House umpiring or the Superleague Umpire Co-ordinator for higher levels.
The next level of testing is the Theory ‘B' paper with a pass mark of 90% required to umpire at a National Level. The Superleague Umpire Co-ordinator and the Netball Committee select national umpires during State Trials. Umpiring at a National Level is very much achievable for any Indoor Netball Umpire that has the drive to improve their skills.
LEVELS
There are 6 graded levels for Indoor Netball Umpiring:
In-House
Superleague Level1
Superleague Level 2
National Level1
National Level 2
National Level 3
National levels can only be achieved by umpiring National Tournaments with the highest level (National 3) only achievable at an Open Tournament. The national Umpire Co-ordinator selects umpires for the World Series tours during National Tournaments.
